SUMMARY:Basquiat Café #1
DESCRIPTION:Poppodium Nieuwe Nor and SCHUNCK present Basquiat Café. Every second Thursday of the month throughout the entire period of the exhibition ‘Basquiat – The artist and his New York scene’. This series of four free-to-be-accessed café evenings looks deeper into different aspects surrounding Basquiat.we present a small exhibition\, lectures\, music and poetry slam. All inspired from the life and work of this iconic artist. \nDuring the first edition on Thursday\, February 14\, the central theme is Basquiat x Music. Which genres influenced Basquiat and which music did he influence himself? \nLecture by Theo Ploeg\, Pop journalist and sociologist: Basquiat x Music.\n“Music and art are intimately connected\,” said Jean-Michel Basquiat. Music always came from his studio\, coming from his extensive vinyl collection. His favorite music was that of David Bowie\, P.i.L. and jazz\, especially jazz. Many of his paintings are homages to his musical heroes. He mixed all kinds of musical styles with the avant-pop collective Gray. His story is also that of New York in the late seventies and early eighties: where underground and mainstream blend into each other and black artists get real recognition for the first time. ” \nMusic:\nBart Oostindie\, Jo Didderen and Marc Huynen \nThese three Limburg musicians will focus on one of Basquiat’s biggest inspirations: jazz. Expect bebop-tunes\, but do not be surprised if there is also a hint of one of Basquiat’s loves: Madonna. \nPoetry slam: Brohlin\nPoetry slam collective Borderlines: Euregion Poetry Slam will present Brohlin from Roermond this evening. This 25-year-old artist has been in love with language from an early age\, which is expressed both in music and in spoken language. Each text is close to Brohlin itself and is based on his environment and experiences\, always showing a touch of hip-hop: rhythm\, flow and melody. \nExpo:\nIn the underpass and the café of pop-stage NEW NOR an exhibition takes place with photos from the Alexis Adler collection from teh exhibition Basquiat – The artist and his New York scene. \n  \nBasquiat Café takes place in the café of pop-stage NEW NOR and is organized with SCHUNCK\, in the context of the exhibition ‘Basquiat – The artist and his New York scene’. \nEntrance is free. \n
