Talk – Jane Dickson & Charlie Ahearn: Doin’ Time in Times Square
19 March 2019 @ 19:30 - 21:30€7,50
In the late 70’s, artists from the COLAB collective took matters into their own hands. Independent of the established art elite, the artists in this collective created their own stage on the rundown Times Square. In a former massage parlor / brothel they organized an exhibition in which they exhibited, created, adapted, celebrated and lived in Basquiat’s New York ‘scene’.
SCHUNCK shows more than 80 original works from this Times Square Show in the exhibition Basquiat – The artist and his New York scene. The show through which Basquiat broke through in the art world. Loan-giver contemporary Andrea Callard on this part of the SCHUNCK exhibition: “You’ve nailed it! Your exhibition completely captured the fun and playfulness that Colab was at the Times Square Show”.
